J. Ward5.0: The Greenwood essential Calamus oil arrived boxed; the 15ml dark glass bottle has a topper which is to be inserted into the top of the bottle to allow controlled drops of the oil to be dispensed. The topper did require a bit of force to insert but once in it works perfectly delivering the oil slowly which is good when only a few drops are required. The lid is not child safe and should be stored away safely from children.Botanical name is Acorus Calamus. Its common names are: Sweet Flag or Myrtle Flag or Myrtle Sedge or Sweet Calamus. It is a member of the Acoraceae family. Acorus Calamus is a herbaceous perennial growing 2 metres tall (=79 in). Its leaves resembles plants of the Iris family. The plant consists of tufts of basal leaves that rise from a spreading rhizome. It is predominately found in wetlands bogs and marshy areas. Calamus has been a vital part of the traditional healing system of various Asiatic countries for more than 3000 years. In both ancient Egypt and in Ayurvedic Medicine in India it was used as an aphrodisiac as well as an aid to maintaining the general health of the reproductive system. In Nepal Calamus Oil is produced only from collected wild plants using traditional methods of extraction. Calamus is produced by steam distillation of the aromatic peeled dried root rhizomes of the plant. The oil has a pale yellow-brown colour and a slightly viscous liquid consistency. It has a refreshing spicy scent resembling cinnamon which makes it a popular ingredient when added to some cosmetics. The pleasant aroma of the oil has made it an attractive part of aromatherapy.Today it main uses are as an anti-inflammation agent capable of reducing swelling together with any associated pain and redness. In aromatherapy it is used as a sedative capable of creating a sense of tranquillity. In such cases it is capable of reducing mental stress anxiety and depression. Sometimes it has been used for treating and reducing chronic back pain.Mental Health Benefits: Calamus oil can be diffused in the air using a vaporizer. One should use about 3-4 drops in a vaporizer and about 10 drops when using an oil burner. There are no directions on the box or the bottle of this particular oil I have used other oils from this company and these are the directions on the side of these other bottles stating the amount of drops used in a carrier oil. Different uses require different amounts i.e. 5 to 6 drops into 30ml of carrier oil for use for facial skin care 10 to 12 drops in 30ml of carrier oil for body application and 15 to 30 drops in 30ml of carrier oil for acute care. I assume the same applies to this oil; however I would advise anyone using this oil to double check. There are storage instructions on the label and a warning that this oil must be kept out of reach or children but unfortunately there is a lot of smudging of the writing. The oil has not leaked during transportation so this is a little disappointing. When the air is pervaded by the essence of Calamus it can improve mental focus concentration and alertness. It aids the memory retention process. It improves blood circulation to the brain and thus gets rid of dizziness. The person can experience better balance and steadiness. It alleviates anxiety stress and tension. Its aroma is said to be spiritually uplifting. It can foster positive feelings in the mind. I have used this oil in a burner on a cold autumn evening; it gives off a pleasant smell which resembles a spicy cinnamon. I usually get a feeling of sadness this time of year; therefore I was keen to try this oil after reading about the many benefits of this oil in relations to ones feelings. I felt relaxed and calm as I sat in my living room reading with the scent of this oil filling the air.Calamus oil can be toxic if not used correctly. The oil contains a compound called beta-asorone which is considered carcinogenic. It has narcotic effects as well and can cause convulsions and hallucinations if taken in high doses. Therefore… oral ingestion should be avoided. Pregnant women should strictly avoid its use.It is best used diluted… it is soluble in alcohol and carrier oils but insoluble in water. It blends well with the essential oils of cedar wood cinnamon clary sage labdanum lavender marjoram olibanum oregano patchouli rosemary tea tree and ylang-ylang. I have used his oil with rosemary and tea tree in a morning bath the combination was very invigorating a great start to the morning routine. I have also added a drop to my face cream at night; it is lovely for the skin with the added benefit of drifting off into a relaxing sleep. This oil will last for 36 months long enough I am sure to use it all up. I am very impressed by the quality of essential oils from this company. Other suppliers can charge over £12 for a 15ml bottle of Calamus oil so this Greenwood brand of oil is of exceptional value. Not only that it is also excellent quality.
?♀️Senorita?♀️4.0: This is a pure Calamus Essential Oil that comes in a 15ml amber bottle sealed with a stopper upon arrival. A euro applicator is supplied for slow and accurate drops. The cap is not childproof though.Calamus oil or also known as German ginger is derived from the roots of Acorus Calamus. It has a yellowish-brown color and has an interesting smell a mixture of woody earthy and maybe a little bit sweet too. I have to admit it’s not the smell that you fall in love with at the first sniff! Lol. It’s not stated on the product page the benefits of this oil. But Calamus is known for its array of therapeutic properties such as anti-rheumatic anti-microbial anti-spasmodic memory boosting etc. and can be used to help reduce arthritis pain treat fungal infection repels insects improve blood circulation among others. Please bear in mind that any pure essential oils have to be diluted with carrier oils before applying directly onto the skin. Using them ‘neat’ on the skin can cause severe skin sensitivity. For the current price of £12.48 for a 15ml bottle I think it’s quite expensive but Greenwood Essential is known for producing high quality and pure oil therefore I don’t mind paying for that price. And having a GC/MS batch number and a PKD date (packaging date?) on the box it’s showing that this company takes quality control seriously. The one that I received has a PKD of 08/2020 and it has a 36-month shelf life.Thank you for reading. Hope you have found it helpful.
Hunnybunny4.0: Greenwood Essential Pure Calamus Essential Oil (Acorus Calamus)100% Natural Therapeutic Grade Steam Distilled 15ml (0.50 oz).I’m a big fan of essential oils and use them for making my own room sprays wax melts cleaning sprays and many other things including facial oils.I recieved this in the 15ml size in an Amber bottle with a plastic dropper.I opened it up and had a sniff it has a woody aroma to it it’s not as strong as others I’ve had in the past and deffinatly not strong enough to make fragranced wax melts but I have other uses for this.Greenwood pure calamus oil can be used for the following…Ulcers.Gas.Upset stomach.Appetite stimulation.Arthritis.Strokes.Skin disorders.Other conditions.More evidence is needed to rate the effectiveness of calamus for these uses.It is thought that chemicals in calamus cause muscle relaxation and sedation.Calamus is LIKELY UNSAFE when taken by mouth. It can cause kidney damage shaking and seizures. The FDA prohibits calamus use in food products because three of the four species of calamus found in the world contain a cancer–causing chemical called beta-isoasarone. However the beta-isoasarone content can vary widely among species from 0% to 96%. Some products may be safer than others.Never use this neat will need diluting with a carrier oil!
Shelbee5.0: Greenwood’s do an array of essential oils and I found because of the random names and write up which is very good I needed certain oils for health myself. So here we have 15ml bottle a few drops will go far. Nice amber bottle and looks nice in the bathroom. I like that the oil is 100% pure and natural not tested on our fur babies it’s vegan alcohol free and solvent free. Please DO NOT use neat on the skin. This oil has to be mixed with a carrier oil such as Sweet Almond Oil Emulsion ( brand name not paint) emollient with added oils in the product Emu Oil great to use on its own for arthritis pain and adding oil makes a lovely moisturiser. I also use Cetreban as a carrier for Greenwood oils. I use with other Greenwood oils and cetraben in my bath or on my skin and face with a carrier. It’s also a nice idea to use in a diffuser. On the directions online it does states precisely how many drops should be used.Priced presently £12.48 a little expensive to some oils but I have had these oils before and so well worth the price for a good oil.Helps reduce pain I use for my neck back hands fingers. I do not use for the smell but the useful properties this oil has. Very calming oil.Thank you to the sellerPlease tick if you found my review helpful kind regards
The Savvy Eclectic4.0: Calamus is known as the Calming Medicine and is known for its sedative effects. It has a slight but Sharp scent (to me) and in looking into this oil I found out that some people chew calamus to either: Remove the smell of tobacco As a Stimulant To increase their sense of wellbeing and as a Hallucinogen. It is- Anti-rheumatic- Anti-spasmodic- Antibiotic- CephalicAnd is also known to help blood circulation and potentially help memory boosting. It is well known in Ayurveda medicine. It also has a “Tranquilizing” effect as at Low doses it can induce sleep and can potentially be helpful to insomniacs Although as an insomniac I have personally not tried this oil for these reasons. I have poor blood circulation in my hands and feet and have found it helpful for that as well as mixing with other medicinal oils.DO NOT TAKE IN HIGH DOSES – Calamus contains a compound called ASORONE.Please make sure to research thoroughly on the uses of this oil before any application.
